“Most business owners excel at running their companies. Few have spent years inside private equity firms understanding how PE investors think about acquisitions, valuation, and what makes a business attractive to a buyer.
I spent 31 years at Blue Point Capital Partners, a respected Cleveland-based middle market PE firm. For 15 of those years, I led our business development function—evaluating hundreds of acquisition candidates, understanding what separates the companies we wanted to own from those we passed on. That gave me a front-row seat to what actually matters when a business comes to market.
When I left Blue Point, I saw a clear gap: business owners in Northeast Ohio with $3-10M in revenue were underserved. Too small for traditional sell-side advisory firms to hustle on their behalf. Ignored by most PE investors. Vulnerable to brokers who didn’t understand the PE landscape. Yet many of these owners had built genuinely attractive businesses—they just didn’t know it.
That’s why I started JM Capital Services.” - Jim Marra, Founder
